Midsouth Steel, an industry leader in steel fabrication and erection, is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to support our daily operations and accounting functions. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys multitasking, and has a strong foundation in general office administration and accounting practices. The ideal candidate will have excellent time management skills and a high level of organization.
Key Responsibilities
Scanning and filing documents in an organized manner.
• Assist accounts payable (AP), ensuring vendor invoices are processed accurately and in a timely manner, including subcontractor payments and lien waivers.
• Support accounts receivable (AR) by preparing client invoices, tracking payments, and following up on outstanding balances.
• Assist with job costing by tracking project expenses, coding invoices to the correct job, and ensuring accuracy in project financials.
• Perform bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and financial statement preparation.
• Assist with audit preparation and reporting as needed.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and construction industry accounting regulations.
Qualifications & Skills
• 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, or manufacturing or related college degree.
Familiarity with ERP systems and construction management platforms (Viewpoint experience is a plus)
• High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
